Bournemouth's 200th Premier League game ended in a 2-2 draw with Fulham at Craven Cottage despite going ahead twice.

It took the visitors less than two minutes to break the deadlock and seven minutes to retake the lead following Issa Diop's equaliser, but the visitors were at fault for their own downfall after a careless error from Jefferson Lerma afforded the hosts the chance to earn an eventual point.

The draw means Bournemouth have extended their unbeaten run under Gary O'Neil to six matches while, despite now being winless in their last three, Fulham remain just one point behind the Cherries in the table in 10th place.

Story of the match

Marco Silva named an almost identical line-up to the one that suffered a 3-1 defeat away to West Ham United on Sunday, with Carlos Vinícius returning to the bench in favour of the club's top scorer this season Aleksandar Mitrović. Issa Diop also came in at the expense of Tosin Adarabioyo.

Bournemouth's interim head coach Gary O'Neil opted to stick with the same eleven that secured a comeback win against Leicester City last weekend. Captain Adam Smith retained his place at left-back ahead of Jordan Zemura, while Joe Rothwell returns to a competitive matchday squad for the first time since April.

The first action of the game saw Bournemouth take the lead in the second minute through Dominic Solanke. Following great combination play between the 25-year-old and Philip Billing, the latter pulled it back from the left touchline for Solanke to fire past Bernd Leno from close range.

The goal sparked Fulham into the life and it was the home side that had the majority share of possession, applying a lot of pressure onto Bournemouth defence but O'Neil's side defended resolutely.

Fulham continued to take control possession and Andreas Pereira did well to open up some space for himself on the edge of the area but his left-footed strike flew comfortably over the bar.

In the 22nd-minute, soon after João Palhinha tested Neto from distance, Fulham levelled thanks to Issa Diop's shoulder as the Frenchman fortuitously met Peireira's driven corner at the front post, leaving Bournemouth's Brazilian goalkeeper unable to claw it away.

Bournemouth were adamant that they should have had a penalty in the 25th-minute when Ryan Fredericks was pulled back by Tim Ream in the area, but Graham Scott deemed it not enough and was backed up after a VAR check.

Minutes later the Cherries retook the lead, this time Solanke turned provider as he recieved the ball on the right flank, drove inside the area and pulled it back for Jefferson Lerma to fire a first-time strike just inside the area past Leno in the 29th-minute.

It proved to be an entertaining first half with both sides putting in great effort and getting into dangerous areas, but the lack of quality in the final third showed at times as good goalscoring chances were snuffed out comfortably by both defences.

Bournemouth came very close to extending their lead before half-time but were denied by a brilliant double save from Leno, who blocked Lerma's low shot before tipping Smith's header from close range over the bar.

Silva made a double substitution at half-time with Willian and Tom Cairney coming on for Dan James and Harrison Reed. It proved to have a positive impact as the hosts started the second half as the better of the two sides.

Their strong start was rewarded with a goal from the penalty spot after Lerma wrestled Mitrović to the ground from a free-kick. The Serbia international stepped up and fired it to his right, leaving Neto diving the wrong way with 52 minutes played.

Bournemouth were again denied by a fine Leno save just after the hour. Solanke did well to control Billing's pass from deep, Ryan Christie took over and set the centre-forward up and from a tight angle he fired a shot across the goalkeeper but the German did well to get low to his right and make the save.

Fulham continued to push for a winner but found it difficult to break through a resolute Bournemouth defence, who were contending very well with the bombardment of crosses into the area, and were unable to test the visitors' goalkeeper for an extended period of the half.

Substitute Jaidon Anthony tried his luck from distance in the 81st-minute but it was comfortably saved by Leno. Mitrović had a half-chance himself moments later, doing well to create space in a crowded area, but it was comfortably held.

Fulham continued to test Bournemouth's defensive resolve and had a great chance to secure all three points, but Mitrović opted to try catch Neto out at the near post and ended dragging his shot well wide in stoppage time.

Player of the match - Dominic Solanke

While he may not have had the impact he would have wanted in the second half, with the hosts controlling possession, his goal and assist in the first half was enough to secure a point.

When the ball was played into him, his hold-up play and willingness to drive at the defence was difficult for Fulham to deal with. He could've had a second of the game if it wasn't for a fine Leno save on the hour mark.
