What has been rumoured for months already is finally a done deal as 32-year-old Canada international Erin McLeod has joined Swedish team FC Rosengard, signing a contract for the next two seasons.

McLeod's wife, forward Ella Masar, joined the current reigning Damallsvenskan champions a few weeks ago too, and the goalkeeper following her to Malmö doesn't come as a surprise at all.

The former Houston Dash goalkeeper first mentioned the desire to complete a move to Sweden in an interview last November. Three months later, the transfer is finally official. According to McLeod, she wanted to wait until after the CONCACAF Olympic Qualifying tournament with Canada was over before announcing the move.

It has always been McLeod's dream to play in the UEFA Women's Champions League and Rosengard will allow her to do just that. The Swedish club will play German side and title defenders 1. FFC Frankfurt in the quarterfinals on March 30, and it looks like the goalkeeper will be a part of Rosengard's squad as she finally fulfils her dream.

Rosengard readying themselves for new season

McLeod is Rosengard's fifth new signing ahead of the new season, joining Lieke Martens, Gaëlle Enganamouit, Iina Salmi and Ella Masar. They will kick off the new Damallsvenskan season on April 16 against Kristianstads DFF.

Sporting director Therese Sjögran has landed a transfer coup with the goalkeeper, as McLeod will definitely strengthen Rosengard's roster. The experienced stopper has already competed at several World Cup tournaments and Olympic Games. She has even played in the Damallsvenskan before. In 2011, McLeod joined Dalsjöfors GoIF but couldn't prevent the club's relegation after just one year.

It is not promised that McLeod will start though, as Rosengard's squad also features the young and promising talent Zecira Musovic. The 19-year-old will not give up her status as number one that easy.
