On Friday, Dynamo Dresden announced that they had extended the contract of head coach, Uwe Neuhaus.

The experienced manager led Dresden back to the 2. Bundesliga last season after winning the 3. Liga title with ease.

His previous deal had been scheduled to run out this summer, but the new contract sees him stay put until 2019.

Continuing to build

Neuhaus was picked up by Dresden after seven seasons in charge of 1. FC Union Berlin, which came to an end after failing to really kick on in the last of those campaigns.

He learned his trade at Borussia Dortmund, where he spent five years under the likes of Udo Lattek and Matthias Sammer

From there, he moved across Nordrhein-Westfalen to Rot-Weiß Essen and had great success in getting the historic club back into the 2. Bundesliga.

However, after just 11 games and two wins, he was sacked. That acted as more than an advert for what he could do in the lower leagues.

Union recognised that and he performed accordingly, taking them from the Regionalliga Nord and 3. Liga to the second tier.

Now with Dresden, he will be aiming to finally take that last step to the Bundesliga.

Neuhaus and Minge have their say

Neuhaus said, "I've never made a secret of the fact that I would like to continue in Dresden and way beyond 2017 as head coach and continue to shape what we have started."

Speaking to the club website, he added: "The work with this young and ambitious team, the whole staff and Ralf Minge is a lot of fun for me, because we work as a real team."

Ralf Minge explained, "We are seeing a team that has Uwe Neuhaus' signature. They celebrate successes and delight our fans every week with bold, attacking football."

He concluded, "We want to continue in this way with our head coach and take the next steps in the 2. Bundesliga together."
