In wake of Nike suspending their sponsorship with Maria Sharapova in light of her failed drug test, the Russian’s other sponsors have also come out with major statements in regards to their relationship with the five-time major champion. Nike has already suspended its relationship with the Russian. Now, Porsche has also suspended its relationship with the world number seven while Tag Heuer has officially ended their relationship with her.
Tag Heuer First To Cut Ties
Tag Heuer was in a relationship with Sharapova since her breakout season in 2004. Despite her contract ending this past December 31st, the two were in talks to extend their contract. A spokeswoman said, “We had been in talks to extend our collaboration. In view of the current situation, the brand has decided not to renew the contract with Sharapova.”
Porsche Suspends Promotional Work
The Russian became the first female ambassador of Porsche back in 2013. The company came out with a statement saying, “We are saddened by the recent news announced by Maria Sharapova. Until further details are released and we can analyse the situation, we have chosen to postpone planned activities.”
Evian Awaits More Details
Evian, the French water company, has reserved to make any moves until more details come out. “We were surprised by the announcement of Maria Sharapova during her press conference,” a spokesperson said. “Evian has been a partner of Maria Sharapova for many years, and until now, we have maintained a trustworthy professional relationship. Evian attaches great importance to health, to integrity and to transparence, and we will follow closely the development of the investigation.”
Sharapova’s Brand Takes A Hit
Sharapova, regarded as one of the best, if not the best, business-savvy athletes in the planet, has had her brand take a hit. Chris Fowler of ESPN took to Twitter and tweeted (seen below) about the possible damage that her failed drug test will cost her.
