Hoffenheim midfielder Roberto Firmino could be on his way to Old Trafford according to the Star

The Brazilian would cost the Red Devils approximately £18m, and are hoping to tie up the midfielder this summer.

Firmino, 23, made his debut for Brazil last season and scored a winner against Chile in a friendly at the Emirates Stadium.

He played 33 times for Hoffenheim in the Bundesliga, scoring seven goals, as well as racking up 10 assists.

The midfielder was on United's radar last season, with scout Peter Braund keeping tabs on Firmino's progress.

United have been encouraged by Firmino's agent, Roger Wittman, who has said he expects his client to move abroad.

"I don't rule out that he'll stay at Hoffenheim, and I also don't rule out that he'll stay in Bundesliga," he said.

"But basically you have to expect a transfer abroad."

German paper Bild already claimed in April that Hoffenheim had decided to cash-in on Firmino, stating that a move away from the club was 90 per cent certain.

Firmino's also received plaudits from his Brazilian coach Dunga, who claims the midfielder has the talent to play for any side in the world:

"He can play for any club and being on the Brazilian national team that comes a lot easier."
