Jürgen Klopp fielded a strong side as Liverpool eased through to the next round of the EFL Cup with a commanding display away at Derby County.

Ragnar Klavan, Philippe Coutinho and Divock Origi were all on the scoresheet as the Reds made it into Round Four, the result never looking in doubt as they were on top from start to finish.

Klopp has sent out a strong side to see off Burton Albion in the previous round, and it was the same again as they again visited Championship opposition, captain Jordan Henderson included along with Coutinho and his Brazilian teammate Roberto Firmino. There was also a debut for new German 'keeper Loris Karius.

Liverpool were on top from the first whistle, going close early on as Henderson struck over and Firmino curled wide. There was a moment of worry as Henderson went down in pain after dueling with veteran striker Darren Bent, however the skipper was okay to carry on.

Klavan breaks the deadlock

The first goal came in the 24th minute, from an unlikely source in Estonian centre-back Ragnar Klavan, who registered his first goal for the club. A low corner from Coutinho wasn't dealt with inside the six yard box, Klavan reacting well to convert from close range as the Derby defence completely lost their bearings.

Derby did come into the game late on in the first half, Bent looking to use his experience to trouble the Liverpool defence. Marcus Olsson sent a cross in towards the striker, heading at Karius in the away goal. Bent - Karius was a duel that flared up again just a minute later, the German off his line brilliantly to deny Bent from latching on to a Bradley Johnson through ball, after Henderson misplaced a pass.

Coutinho lights up second half

Given a slight scare at the end of the first half, Liverpool came out for the second 45 keen to seal the win, and they had it sewn up within 10 minutes.

The second goal was made in Brazil, a quick one-two between Firmino and Coutinho as they moved forward in midfield, before the latter rolled a shot into the bottom left hand corner of Jonathan Mitchell's goal.

Coutinho scored the second, and made the third shortly after, Divock Origi netting his second goal of the competition so far. Coutinho latched onto the ball in midfield, nudging the ball behind the backline at the perfect moment as Origi curved his run well, the young Belgian hammering a shot into the roof of the net.

Reds ease through

Emre Can made his return from injury off the bench after the third goal, replacing Henderson, but admittedly looked rusty. Unsurprising after a month out, but a performance that hinted he's unlikely to start against Hull City on Saturday.

Despite having been beaten three times, Mitchell was still on hand to make a superb save in the Derby goal from Firmino, who volleyed from inside the area after a Coutinho cross, the ground wondering how it had stayed out as the 'keeper pushed it over.

There was one moment of panic for Karius on a fairly quiet night, flapping at a cross as Richard Keogh looked to pounce, only to head wide.

The visitors slowly took their foot off the gas, safe in the knowledge that the game was won, their third win in a row.
