Gary Rowett has given an update on a couple of his injured players. Six Millwall players, including Connor Mahoney, Murray Wallace, Ryan Leonard, Kenneth Zohore, Maikel Kieftenbeld and Jake Cooper all remain out and all six have not featured since their respective injuries, but the Millwall boss has given an update on the latter two.

The Lions face Preston North End tomorrow in the Sky Bet Championship and Jake Cooper is the only one who has a chance of a return to the squad.

  • Jake Cooper could feature

Millwall manager Gary Rowett reckons Jake Cooper has a chance of returning to the squad to face Preston but admits he will have to prove his fitness.

Speaking to the South London Press, Gary Rowett said:

"The only one who could have any chance of being back is Coops. That's going to be a really big ask but Coops is a fabulous athlete, and a really good pro, he is improving every day.

"Friday his strength wasn't where it needed to be and he knew that himself. It was better on Saturday morning. He more or less said: 'Don't rule me out for Tuesday'. But he has got a lot to do today to show he is ready."

  • Maikel Kieftenbeld eases workload

Maikel Kieftenbeld has been out since he came off at half time in the 4-1 win at home to Sheffield Wednesday last month.

Speaking to the South London Press, Rowett said:

"He tried to come back last week and just felt his hamstring was a little bit tight. He had a bit of discomfort. It's been frustrating because it's not a serious injury. They can taker anywhere up to 10 or 21 days. Maikel tried to come back after 14 or 15 and just felt it.

"Once that Happens then you have almost got to ease off again for a week and try it again because there is a bit of nervousness from the medical team because he has got to do those last little bits - running fast and at training intensity.

"Maikel was clearly really influential in the games he played and we certainly miss elements of Maikel and other players game. there is a lot of physicality in Championship matches and someone like Maikel would be a key player at this moment in time."
