Following his arrival in the last day of the summer transfer window, Emerson Royal struggled to find his footing in the first couple of games he competed in with Tottenham Hotspur.

Now, after getting more minutes under his belt, the 22 year-old Brazilian seems to be the perfect fit in the Spurs defense, playing as a right back and producing not only defensively, but also offensively.

Royal had his best performance with a Spurs shirt in the last league game prior to the international break, where Nuno Espírito Santo's men defeated Aston Villa 2-1 at home.

Patience

The Portuguese manager expressed how happy he is for Emerson, and revealed that is understandable it is taking him a little bit longer to adapt to a new league.

''I think we have to be very patient with all the players,'' Espírito Santo said. ''I honestly think he has to improve. He had a good game. He was stable, especially in the way that he controlled the width.

''He was really good going forward. I think he had moments when he should have decided better when he was in the box, but not only Emerson, I think all the team, it was important for us.

''It was very important for us, all the boys, the fans and the way the team played, I think we should be proud.''

Emerson had an impressive performance in front of his home fans and seems to finally be proving his worth. Royal registered 86 touches, four interceptions, nine duels won and two successful tackles.

Spurs acquired Royal from Barcelona for a reported transfer fee of £25.8 million transfer fee, agreeing to a term of five years with the player.
