Without a league win since mid-November 2022, Maidenhead United now face the tough task of heading to North Yorkshire and attempting to carve out a result against York City.

A narrow 3-2 loss at Altrincham over a week ago came as the Magpies' latest result in the Vanarama National League, so they will be hoping that fresh legs can work to their advantage.

One thing that definitely doesn't give them any upper hand on their opponents is recent form, having failed to win any of the last seven in the division, shipping 17 goals throughout that period, which spans back to 26th November.

Albeit, three points on Saturday would prove huge for Alan Devonshire's side, who can advance out of 17th place, and go level on points with the Minstermen.

York don't boast the best of form either, counting an away defeat at Oldham in mid-week as their 11th of the season.

However, David Webb's City have a chance to extend their 2023 100% home record to three games, having flushed away Maidstone United and Chelmsford City recently, the latter in the FA Trophy.

If the hosts can manage to squish Maidenhead's hopes of endangering their mid-table stability and pick up the win themselves, only four points could be needed to break into the playoffs, with other results going their way.

York City

Goalkeeper Ethan Ross will be forced to sit out and miss his first National League game this season, with a 10 day safety precaution needed following a head injury at Oldham.

In accommodation of that, 23-year-old stopper Ryan Whitley has been recalled from his loan at Boston United, in which he did not play, and will be available for selection.

Winger Maziar Kouhyar's returning date was scheduled to be late January, and manager David Webb confirmed he was back running prior to the Oldham game, however his match fitness is unknown.

Luke James and Gus Mafuta are yet to be involved in the squad since calf injuries suffered at the start of December.

In defence, Sam Sanders' shoulder problem kept him out of the team on Tuesday.

Maidenhead United

Defender Idris Odutayo has had his loan spell from Fulham extended until the end of the season.

Central defender Will De Havilland missed the Magpieslast outing at Altrincham with a slight knock, but his position in the starting lineup shouldn't be in any doubt, having good time to recover.

  • Likely Lineups

York City

Whitley; Fallowfield, Kerr, Kouogun, Crookes, Whittle; Hancox, Pybus, Dyson; Tanner, Forde, Thomas

Maidenhead United

Gyollai; Asare, De Havilland, Massey, Beckwith; Ferdinand, Adams, Smith; Acquah, Barratt, Sparkes

  • Key Players

Dan Pybus (York City)

Joining City from Dunfermline in the Summer, the midfield maestro Dan Pybus has been one of the stand-outs throughout the season so far; the fans' favourite has recently been rewarded with a new contract that keeps him at the LNER Community Stadium until 2025.

The 25-year-old is consistently active in winning the ball back, and playing exquisite passes across the pitch - a poor performance from Pybus arrives once in a blue moon and he will no doubt be hoping to help York return to winning ways at the weekend.

Emile Acquah (Maidenhead United)

Failing to make his goalscoring mark on the National League for Maidenhead last season, striker Emile Acquah has given fans a different view of his ability in this campaign so far.

The 22-year-old has netted eight goals across 26 appearances so far, double the amount he finished on last season.

He has also been pretty ever-present in the league, missing just one game. You would have to say Acquah is unlucky to have netted two consecutive braces at the end of the year, both occurring in losses.
