Adam Lallana believes that he is taking advantage of his current confidence whilst enjoying his best spell in a Liverpool shirt.
The England international has started the season in excellent form and is playing in a Liverpool team who find themselves top of the table after a dominant 6-1 win against Watford.
The Liverpool no.20 was also on the scoresheet for England as they cruised past Scotland on Friday in a comfortable 3-0 victory. Lallana insists however that it he’s “not worried about his form” but instead is concentrated on “how we do as a team” for both Liverpool and England.
“It’s nice to have got a good run of games for Liverpool and England", claimed the midfielder.
“We’re unbeaten in the group and on top with England and top of the league with Liverpool. The objective is to qualify for Russia and we’re well on the way to getting there.”
When told last week, he was “finally a Liverpool player,” by somebody Lallana brushed off that praise because he, himself, doesn’t “feel like a new player” but he was quick to acknowledge he is performing at a high level.
Lallana has so far registered 3 goals and 5 assists in the Premier League this season as he quickly adapted to his new role under Jürgen Klopp in central midfield and is enjoying playing alongside the likes of Brazilian duo Philippe Coutinho and Roberto Firmino.
“It’s something which comes gradually and I feel I’m at the top of my game at the minute, as everyone is at Liverpool.”
Despite the plaudits he has received so far this season, the Liverpool midfielder is always looking to get better and believes he “can improve a lot more.”
“I feel like I’m improving every day at Liverpool, working hard under the boss and, hopefully, I can keep doing well and performing well for England.
“When you have got confidence, it’s important you take advantage of it because it’s not something you can just switch on and off.
Perfoming Well For England
Lallana admits “it’s nice” that he has managed to transition his current club form and “bring that here to the international stage.” The former Southampton man netted his first England goal in September in stoppage time against Slovakia to hand The Three Lions all three points before netting his second in the match against Scotland on Friday.
The 28-year-old enjoyed the “great occasion at Wembley” and was “delighted to get the three points.” The Liverpool man has also been impressed with the job England manager, Gareth Southgate, is doing with Lallana impressed with “how he has taken it on.”
“We’re listening to him. We’re listening to what he wants to do. My goal was quite rare and similar to Studge’s in a lot of ways.”
Lallana nodded in the second of England’s goals just after half time after teammate Daniel Sturridge had put England ahead on 23 minutes.
“There was a lot of pace on the cross and I just had to direct it.
“It was nice to get a goal with my head – it is quite rare for me.”
