According to several reports Tottenham Hotspur have agreed an £11million deal to sign midfielder Victor Wanyama from Southampton.  It is understood that the 25-year-old will have a medical at the North London club in the upcoming days.

It has looked ever more likely that the midfielder would leave the Saints after handing in a transfer request last summer and admitting that he had no regrets over the action. It was understood at the time that Ronald Koeman was the man to stop the deal, but since the manager has left the club to join Everton and so increasing the likelihood of the midfielder’s exit. Wanyama also rejected a new deal from the Saints.

Wanyama will have to fight with Dembele and Dier for a starting role

It is understood that Mauricio Pochettino is keen to reunite with Wanyama especially after his team secured Champions League next season and need to improve their strength in depth as he will have to battle with current midfield duo Eric Dier and Moussa Dembele for a spot.

Dier and Dembele were both pivotal for Tottenham last season and the club hope that they can both carry their form into the upcoming campaign. Dier has acted as as shield for Tottenham’s defence as his ability to read attacks, which helped Tottenham concede the lowest amount of goals across the whole Premier League. Dembele’s strength and power, on the other, hand allowed Tottenham to control the midfield and his ability to get past players with ease meant that the Lilywhites could launch attacks when otherwise looked more challenging.

The midfielder was linked with a move to Arsenal but after the Gunners secured Granit Xhaka earlier in the summer the move now looks less likely. It is also understood that Tottenham beat champions Leicester to the Kenyan.
