Sharp-shooter Skyler White has returned to the Surrey Scorchers for a second consecutive season, following a very successful first year with the Scorchers.

White has proven himself to be one of the greatest three point shooters in the league and also a fantastic defender, that any opponent will fear coming against.

Last season, White managed to make the most amount of three pointers in the British Basketball League, and finished second in the amount of blocks.

White’s Career In Numbers

White began in America at George Washington College for his freshman year in the NCAA.

After a year at George Washington, White moved on to Idaho for his sophomore year and started to see an uptick in his minutes, and in five minutes on the court, he put up two points and two rebounds a game.

After only a year in Idaho, White moved again to Point Loma where the forward completed his junior and senior year.

Following a good junior year with Point Loma, White saw his minutes double to twenty minutes of action, including 21 starts in 31 games, and he made the most of his time on the court.

White was able to put together eight points a game, six rebounds, an assist and over a steal a game.

After his time at Point Loma came to an end, White took his skills across the Atlantic Ocean, to play in Portugal, for Terceira Basket in the Portuguese LPB.

White was a huge contributor to the Portuguese outfit, starting in 34 of the 35 games the forward featured in.

The 6'7 forward was able to help his side on both ends of the court, with 14 points per game, 7.7 rebounds and 1.3 blocks a game.

His year with Terceira came to an end, and White stayed in Europe as he made his move to play his first year with Surrey.

It was an incredible year for White, and he quickly established himself as one of the leagues best signings for the 2019-20 season.

Putting up 15.5 points per game, while making 2.8 three pointers a game, which was a league high, White provided a much needed sharpshooter to the Scorchers roster.

His incredible defending will also be massively appreciated by the the Surrey faithful, as he grabbed eight rebounds, and 1.6 blocks per game.

White Excited to Return to Surrey

Following an incredible year from the forward, it only made sense for both White and the Scorchers to try and make a deal between the two camps possible, and White can’t wait to provide again.

Speaking to the Scorchers website, White said: “I’m excited to be back. It is something I had planned on during the season, I’m glad it’s finally done.

“I love the guys here and I love the fans. I love Creon and I want to win for him. It’s going to be a lot easier to get gelled this year coming back to a team with guys I know.

“I’ve already been talking with Tayo about some strategies on the defensive end that we can do.

“It’s going to be more team basketball this year, we can pass the ball anywhere on the court and you know someone is going to be there who can knock the shot down.

“If I can lead the league in three points made again that would be great, I want to be top 10 in a lot of categories.

“But if I don’t appear on the stat sheet and we win, and I’m fine with that.”

Coach Creon Happy to Bring White Back

Head Coach Creon Raftopoulos was extremely impressed with how White integrated himself into the Scorchers set up last year, and believes he can build on the reputation he’s built for himself in Surrey.

Coach Raftopoulos, who spoke with the Scorchers website, added: “I think Skyler is another one who really showed us what he was capable of on the court.

“Bringing back a core of last year’s team was really important to us. The fans enjoyed watching Skyler play, they loved the passion he brings, and we’re really happy to have him back.

“Last season he was hampered by little injuries, but he played through it, which is a testament to his character.”
