Top 5 WrestleMania Matches From The Last Decade

This list will only contain matches from WrestleMania 22-31, so unfortunately there will be no Giant Gonzales on this list. This list is purely opinion based and here at Vavel we would love to hear your opinions, so let us know your thoughts on what the greatest matches at WrestleMania. Lets get started!

5.Mick Foley - Edge- WrestleMania 22

We start our list off with the Hardcore legend, Mick Foley's match with the Rated R Superstar, Edge and what a match it was. In terms of actual wrestling this match lacked it, but despite this, the match played off of the hardcore elements that were blended into this bout between the two. Foley at this point was so far past his best days that you could see him limping before the match even started, but that didn't stop Mrs Foley's baby boy from putting on one more classic WrestleMania match, in what is truly a testament to Mick Foley and his dedication to the business.

The match was a hardcore match and you could say that this was one of the last legitimate hardcore matches in the WWE. Blood was spilt as soon as the match kicked off showing the fans it asn't going to be pretty; barbed-wire, tables, steel sheets etc, were all used in this match on both men. Eventually boiling down to the "WrestleMania Moment" when Edge speared Foley through the ropes onto a burning table. A lasting image in all of the WWE fans heads.

If you ever want to show a non wrestling fan a match, this would be the one you should show them. Edge won this match, but most people won't even remember the winner as fans feel like the match was so full of iconic moments that they themselves felt like the winners, which is the way every match should be.

4. Batista (c) - John Cena- WrestleMania 26

Depending on the way you look at this match, this could be a controversial addition to this list as both men have never been known for there wrestling prowess. Regardless of that, this match deserves to be on this list, as itt was a matchup between two of the faces of the WWE, and they put on a very good match. Technically speaking you could say it was lacking, however the story telling element was what made this match worthy of the spot on this list.

The egotistical Animal, Batista vs Mr Hustle, Loyalty, and Respect John Cena wrote itself in terms of storytelling, but what both men did in the ring is what made it feel real. The match included several finishers and near falls including the best spot in the match where Batista caught Cena mid-air and hit him with the Batista Bomb. Something that both men have tried before, resulting in Cena suffering a serious injury, thankfully this time the move went as planned.

There is an argument that Batista - John Cena is this generations Steve Austin - The Rock and with the type of chemistry both pairs have in the ring it would be hard to argue against this. The winner was John Cena and was Batista's last WrestleMania match for several years as he would soon leave the company. It was a very good send off for The Animal Batista who went on to have a stale MMA career, but a very successful acting career before returning to the company. This match is a must watch for any fan of wrestling.

3.The Rock - John Cena - WrestleMania 28

Once in a lifetime (not really) is the phrase that was coined going into this match and it was definitely built in this way. This match was given a whole year to develop and the pay off was worth the wait. Again it wasn't a great technical match up, but it was never going to be as neither man was known for that.

The match told the great story of the greatest of all time - the greatest at the time and the stare off at the start of the match highlighted this straight away. In ring it consisted of many, many finishers and near falls. This was very well implemented into the match as each near fall looked as if it was going to be the end of the match. The unpredictability was truly what made this match great as either man could've won.

The fans were on there feet throughout the whole match, and it had a huge fight feeling which the fans bought into. The atmosphere was deafening, everything leading up to the match and everything in the match was perfect. The only reason this match isn't higher up on the list is the ending, as John Cena should've won and they should've never faced off again.

Unfortunately Vince McMahon saw dollar signs when he knew The Rock would be available for one more match at WrestleMania and made a second battle between the two in the main event the following year which most certainly doesn't deserve a place on this list.

2. Brock Lesnar (c)vs Roman Reigns - Seth Rollins- WrestleMania 31

Despite the overwhelming negative response Roman Reigns got when WWE decided to put him in the main event of WrestleMania, this match was the perfect blend of storytelling, aggression and wrestling, and certainly surprised most fans. The match consisted of a very dominant Brock Lesnar suplex'ing Reigns over and over again. He took him to "suplex city" and Reigns survived and fought back.

Reigns took everything from the Beast and still kicked out and it is this storytelling within the match that made even the most bitter wrestling fan want to root for Reigns. The blood used throughout made Lesnar and Reigns both look very strong and more than worthy to be headlining WrestleMania. For a long time it looked like Reigns was destined to win it and was going to leave WrestleMania the WWE World Heavyweight Champion.

This was until Seth Rollins hijacked the main event of WrestleMania and cashed in his Money in the Bank briefcase to a outstanding ovation. Seth Rollins then went on to Curb Stomp his former Shield brother and pick up the win and the championship. This was the perfect ending to a perfect match, it was almost flawless so what match could possibly deserve to top this match?

Notable Mentions

Shawn Michaels - John Cena -WrestleMania 23

Daniel Bryan - Batista - Randy Orton - WrestleMania 30

Triple H - Batista -WrestleMania 21

The Undertaker - Edge - WrestleMania 24

1. The Undertaker - Shawn Michaels- WrestleMania 25

When you hear people talking about the greatest of all time, these two names are the first to always come up and this match is the reason. This match is perfect, the wrestling is perfect, the storytelling is perfect, the emotion is perfect, even the botches are perfect. Shawn Michaels makes The Undertaker look as powerful as ever and The Undertaker makes HBK appear as resilient as possible.

Michaels sells every move to near perfection and this translates in the way in which the match flows. The result may seem predictable at first but when the two stars clashed it truly looked like an anything could happen. There's nothing much you can say about this match, you just have to watch it. The mere mention of these two stars' names makes you want to put on WrestleMania 25 sit through an awful 30 minute Kid Rock concert and watch this magical match.

It is arguably the best match of all time and here at Vavel this author would give it 6 stars. If The Oscars gave out awards for wrestling matches this match would win them all, hence why it has topped this list.
