Watford striker Matej Vydra could be allowed to leave Vicarage Road on deadline day for Reading on a season-long loan deal if the Hornets are able to sign a striker.

The newly-promoted Premier League side are believed to be close to signing Roma flop Victor Ibarbo on loan from the Serie A giants.

Vydra falls down the pecking order

And that would mean that Vydra, who has scored 36 goals in 83 appearances whilst on loan from Udinese, would be allowed to leave despite only making his stay at Vicarage Road permanent this summer.

The Czech international has not featured yet in the Hornets' opening four Premier League fixtures, with captain Troy Deeney and Odion Ighalo being the preferred pairing for new manager Quique Sanchez Flores.

Getreading.co.uk have reported that whilst a deal has not been agreed, the Royals hierarchy are hopeful of being able to pull off their third loan deal of the past two days.

The Championship side have brought in Lucas Piazon on loan from Chelsea, whilst Dutch winger Ola John has arrived at the Madejski to complete a season-long stay at Reading from Benfica.

Top-flight experience

Vydra actually scored against the Royals last season, scoring the second in a 4-1 win as the Hornets cruised to automatic promotion to the top flight.

The Czech international has played in the Premier League before while on loan at West Brom, but scored just three goals for the Baggies, and seems likely to spend the season away from Vicarage Road.

Reading could face competition from Sheffield Wednesday for the striker, but it would seem their main target is Gary Hooper on loan from Norwich, not Vydra.

It is understood by Sky Sports that the Royals would be willing to pay £2m to Watford to secure the forward on loan, with Steve Clarke clearly intent on beefing up his attacking options.
