Kevin Stewart has put pen to paper on a new Liverpool contract, committing his future to the club by signing a fresh four-year-deal on Tuesday afternoon.

The midfielder, 22-year-old, has risen to prominence as one of a number of youngsters backed by Jürgen Klopp since he took over, and his impressive performances in front of the defence have seen him rewarded with this new contract.

Quick rise to fame concluded with PL debut

Picked by Klopp as part of an extermely youthful 11 against Exeter City in an FA Cup third round tie last month, Stewart made his debut that night and hasn't looked back since.

He was again assured in the 3-0 replay win over Exeter, before many hailed him as Man of the Match when the Reds drew 0-0 against West Ham United in the next round of the competition, again fielding an inexperienced side.

Stewart suffered defeat for the first time in a red shirt soon after, playing another full game as they lost 2-1 to the Hammers in the fourth round replay, but that disappointment was soon forgotten, as he made his Premier League debut, coming off the bench in the 6-0 away victory over Aston Villa.

Stewart must now get over his ankle injury

There was another setback the day after, with Stewart suffering ligament damage to his ankle in training. However, that injury is only set to keep him out of action for three or four weeks, a much shorter lay-off than was first feared, especially given Liverpool's injury record this season.

Speaking briefly to the club website after signing his contract, Stewart explained that the new deal "gives me more confidence", as it "shows the club believe in me".

The midfielder will now be looking to get back from the treatment table as soon as possible, as he looks to further establish himself in Klopp's plans ahead of a potential summer overhaul on L4.
