With the fitness worries surrounding Daniel Sturridge currently headline news, another name has also furthered Liverpool's concerns.

Sheyi Ojo joins the long line of injuries taking the total to eight before the Premier League season has even got underway.

The young winger did not feature in either the Reds' 4-0 win against Barcelona at Wembley on Saturday or their 4-0 defeat to Mainz the following day.

Ojo was left out of the trips after notifying the medical staff regarding discomfort in his back and Jürgen Klopp was not willing to take any chances.

The issue is not believed to be serious but the England Under-19 international remained in Merseyside for further testing and rehabilitation.

The injury news could not have come at a more sensitive time for the reds who kick off their Premier League campaign in less than a weeks time.

Arsenal will be a tough task for Klopp's men and it will be a race against time for a number of his important players if they are to start the season well.

Ojo is not the most senior player currently sidelined as a number of players are battling issues leaving the boss with a major headache.

Loris Karius is expected back the latest as the goalkeeper suffered a broken hand when he accidentally clashed with Dejan Lovren in a friendly, leaving Simon Mignolet to redeem himself following last season's less-than-perfect showing.

Sturridge is also battling a hip injury. The Englishman has suffered with fitness issues over the past number of years with the same issues arising time after time.

Lucas Leiva is almost certain to miss out on the Arsenal showdown as the Brazilian, who is Liverpool's most senior player, is dealing with a hamstring injury.

Joe Gomez does not seem to be able to catch a break as the defender who recently returned from a anterior cruciate ligament injury was dealt with a further setback as he picked up an Achilles injury ruling him out for another five weeks.

Mamadou Sakho is a member of the crocked eight as the Frenchman is dealing with a similar injury to that of Gomez but following his recent dismissing from the Reds' tour, whether he still fits into Jürgen's plans is another story.

Also on the injury list are James Milner with a suspected ankle injury and Marko Grujic but the Liverpool boss said the injury to the Serbian was "nothing serious."
