Leeds United returned to winning ways on Monday evening as they beat Crystal Palace 2-0 at Elland Road.

The victory sees the club move up to 10th in the Premier League table.

  • Pleased with the way you professionally managed to see out the final 20 minutes?

Goals from Manchester City loanee Jack Harrison and Patrick Bamford, who claimed his 100th career goal, saw Marcelo Bielsa's side claim victory.

After the game, Bielsa spoke to the media about how pleased he was with the side to manage the game to its conclusion.

"I think the fact that we didn’t concede any goals was important. We didn’t suffer any chances in the first half and very few in the second.

"Although in the end, we didn’t attack as much, throughout the game we generally caused them danger."

  • Can you tell us why no Hernandez and what's the problem with Phillips?

Leeds United midfielder Pablo Hernandez wasn't involved in the match day squad against Crystal Palace, despite being on the bench the final few weeks and the Whites head coach explained why the Spanish playmaker didn't make the squad against the Eagles.

"Pablo [Hernandez] in the last football session that we had picked up a small, minor muscular injury.

"Although the injury was only a minor one, it was better he didn't play today as a precaution."

Whites midfielder Kalvin Phillips went off in the final two minutes of the game with an apparent injury, however, Bielsa said: "Sincerely, I don't know the state of Phillips's injury as of now."

  • Gelhardt on the bench - why was this the right opportunity to bring him into the squad?

Leeds United under-23s star Joe Gelhardt got his first taste of being involved in a first-team squad under Bielsa since arriving at Elland Road, and that came due to the fact Hernandez missed the game with a muscular injury.

Bielsa explained the reasoning behind bringing him into the squad: "Prior to the game yesterday, Gelhardt had been one of the better players in the under-23s.

"And given the absence of Pablo, we thought that Tyler Roberts could play as a number ten or as a striker and the same for Gelhardt." he said.

"We follow every under-23s game closely, we constantly ask for advice from their manager [Mark Jackson] and he suggested that we bring in Gelhardt. We thought that it was a correct recommendation."

  • How close do you feel to this group?

Monday evening marked a year since the club faced Nottingham Forest in the Championship and lost 2-0 however, 12 months on, the Whites currently sit 10th in the Premier League having just beat the Eagles 2-0, and Bielsa discussed how close he felt to the group: "The fact that we won the Championship is always more distant, further away.

"We are taking our step into the Premier League now by trying to play as naturally as possible and to show we deserve to be in this league."

  • How safe and secure do you feel this season?

Leeds United currently sit 17 points above the drop zone and seem to be securing a second season in top flight of football after being promoted last season and Bielsa didn't want to make that kind of comment just yet.

"It's better to only make comments on this when mathematically it's impossible to go down."
