Coventry City have completed the signing of Bristol City midfielder Kasey Palmer for an undisclosed fee. The 25-year-old has signed a three year deal with the Sky Blues, ending his three year stay in Bristol.

Palmer joined Bristol City in 2019, following a successful loan spell from Premier League side Chelsea for an undisclosed fee. At the Robins, Palmer made 79 appearances in total, picking up eight goals and seven assists despite only featuring six times last season after injuries and falling out of favour.

Palmer has plenty of Championship experience, featuring for Derby County, Blackburn Rovers Swansea City, as well as making a handful of Premier League appearances for Huddersfield Town. This level of experience will be perfect for Mark Robins' side, especially given some of the in-experience that certain players have at Coventry City

How will Palmer fit in?

Coventry struggled in the attacking midfield position last season, relying heavily on Callum O'Hare whilst also trialing a number of other players in that position like Martyn WaghornJodi Jones and Jamie Allen - all of which are not natural attacking midfielders.

The Sky Blues have also lacked an out and out attacking midfielder ever since the loan departure of then Wolves midfielder Bright Enobakhare. They did bring the Nigerian playmaker back to the club in July 2021, but following a string of attitude issues, poor performances and various other undisclosed factors, he was released just three months later.

Palmer becomes the first of several new players that are expected to join the Sky Blues this season, something that could increase should Gustavo HamerViktor Gyokeres or Callum O'Hare be sold this summer. Coventry have already lost loanees Ian Maatsen and Jake Clarke-Salter back to Chelsea. The latter of which, has since signed for Championship rivals Queens Park Rangers

What other business have Coventry done?

Elsewhere, Coventry have also lost midfielder Jordan Shipley as he ends a 17 year stay to join League One side Shrewsbury Town for an undisclosed fee. Joining him is French full-back Julien Dacosta on a season long loan. U23's defender Declan Drysdale has joined League Two side Newport County for an undisclosed fee whilst duo Josh Pask (The New Saints) and Jodi Jones (On trial at Oxford United) have been released after their contracts at the CBS Arena came to an end.
