Fulham ace Harry Wilson sustained a knee injury during a pre-season friendly against Aston Villa that was played behind closed doors at the end of July at Craven Cottage that would rule him out for the first 6-8 weeks of the new season. However, Cottagers boss Marco Silva has provided an injury update on the winger - expecting him to be fit in time for the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar, which kicks off on the 21st of November.

During an interview in the week leading up to his side's Premier League opener with Liverpool, Silva explained: "Of course, he is getting some feedback from a specialist in this situation, but it will not be really short, it will be something for sure more than eight weeks, they are saying that. If it becomes less it will be very good for us and then we'll see how long it can be.”

  • World Cup hopes

When asked about Wilson’s chances of featuring at this year's World Cup, the Portuguese responded: “I don't think (that it will affect his hopes of being fit in time) because he deserves it really to be there, he is really important for us as you know.”

"He's a big big piece for us, what he can give us in certain games, the profile he can give us, completely different things than the others.

"First he is a big miss for us of course. I think (for his chance to make) the World Cup you have to be positive. I think he can help us even before the World Cup to be in the right conditions there but it is something that we are not sure yet."

This would come as good news to both Fulham and Wales fans alike as the Welshman forms an integral part in both sides respectively - as Fulham look to fight for Premier League survival, whilst Wales gear up for their first FIFA World Cup appearance since 1958 in a group that will see them face England, Iran and the USA.

Once he has recovered from his injury, Wilson will be hoping to recapture his scintillating form during Fulham’s Championship title-winning campaign last season, which saw him bag 10 goals and 22 assists to help guide his side back amongst the elite of the Premier League.

Surrounded by a qualified medical team that will closely monitor his recovery process, fans will be hoping to see the winger regain full match fitness as soon as possible.
