Fara Williams has completed her move to Arsenal from Liverpool.

The England international is one of many players to leave Merseyside during the off-season following a poor 2015 campaign for the 2013 and 2014 FA WSL 1 champions, whilst Arsenal are looking to build on their success in the last 12 months, having won the WSL Cup in November.

Williams is certainly a player who can help them improve as they eye up a return to their dominant ways of the past, first by challenging a Chelsea side who took England by storm this season by lifting both the WSL 1 and FA Women's Cup titles.

Manager delighted with signing

Speaking to Arsenal's official website, manager Pedro Martinez Losa called Williams a "great competitor" and a "fantastic character" upon her arrival in North London.

The England international, who is the country's all-time most-capped player, showed her class when she smashed in a 30-yard rocket against Losa's side in the 2015 season as Liverpool recorded a 3-1 win, and he is "delighted" to have that sort of quality on his side now, as opposed to on the opponent's.

He is pleased to bring Williams' "huge experience at club and international level" to Arsenal, as well as her "reading and understanding" of the game - which he called "fantastic."

Losa concluded by dubbing her "an exciting addition" to his squad, before saying he is already "look[ing] forward to working with her" as the Gunners prepare for the 2016 season, which will kick off in mid-March.

Liverpool exodus continues

After a disappointing title defence, the departure of Williams signals the continuation of a mass exodus of players from Liverpool.

The Reds finished second-from-bottom in the WSL 1 this season, despite going into the campaign as reigning champions and with Champions League football to enjoy once more in the autumn.

However, after manager Matt Beard left for Boston Breakers, they have now lost numerous key players, including goalkeeper Libby Stout, defender Becky Easton and striker Natasha Dowie.

Though new boss Scott Rogers is already adding to his depleted squad, bringing in Siobhan Chamberlain and Laura Coombs, there is plenty of work for him to do before the season gets underway.
