The US Men's National Team looks for a key victory against an England squad that could theoretically wrap up Group B as the two teams clash at the 2022 World Cup.

England looked every bit the title contenders that they were tipped to be in their opening match, thrashing Iran 6-2 as Bukayo Saka led the Three Lions attack with a pair of goals.

For the Stars and Stripes, they looked well on their way to an opening-match victory as Tim Weah put them in front against Wales after just 35 minutes, but Gareth Bale converted a penalty to rescue a point for the Dragons.

Victory for England would see them clinch a place in the last 16 and a draw between Wales and Iran in the other game in the group would confirm the Three Lions as group winners.

USA needs a result from this match after dropping two points against Wales. A win or draw would see them in an excellent position to reach the knockout stages with Iran their final group-stage opponents.

Defeat puts Gregg Berhalter's men in a compromising situation, needing a victory over Iran and help when England faces Wales on matchday three.

The World Cup history between the two sides points in favor the Stars and Stripes as pulled off one of the biggest shocks in tournament history in 1950 in a 1-0 victory and an error by Rob Green saw the 2010 contest end in a 1-1 draw.

Team news

England

The Three Lions were relieved when the scan on star man Harry Kane's ankle injury, sustained in the win over Iran, came back negative and he is expected to feature.

Manager Gareth Southgate is expected to stick with the same lineup that brought him all three points on Monday.

Harry Maguire is set to return from illness and take his place in defense while Kyle Walker is "in contention" according to Southgate after missing the opener with a groin issue.

James Maddison has missed training through a knee injury and he is doubtful to play any part in this one.

USA

Weston McKennie and Yusuf Musah came off against Wales with groin and toe injuries, but both should be fit to start.

Giovanni Reyna was an unused substitute on Monday with Berhalter saying the Stars and Stripes attacker was "unfit" to play. He should be in contention to feature in this crunch clash.

Key players

Bukayo Saka (England)

Everyone knows the quality of Kane, but more performances by the Arsenal youngster will see him receive more plaudits after a brilliant two-goal effort against Iran.

He's as versatile as any player in Qatar, able to operate at left-back, wingback, in the midfield or as a forward. He's best when used in wide areas where he has the unique ability to accelerate on the half-turn and start the attack.

Saka showed the resilience he possesses, perhaps his best attribute as his last appearance in a Three Lions shirt ended with him missing the decisive penalty in the finals of the 2020 European championships.

Tim Weah (USA)

Similar to Saka, Weah is in the shadow of players like Christian Pulisic and Tyler Adams, but his goal against Wales showed the talent and ability he has on offer.

He's started six of the previous nine matches he was available for and is Berhalter's first choice at right wing when fully healthy. Possessing great pace and strength, he fits perfectly in the USA's pressing system.

The 22-year-old displayed the potential he had as he scored on his international debut in 2018 against Bolivia and he has a winner's mentality, helping lead Lille to a shock Ligue 1 title in France.
