Reports in Italy are surfacing that AC Milan are considering a January swoop for out of favour Manchester United midfielder Morgan Schneiderlin.
The Frenchman, who signed for the red devils last summer under Louis Van Gaal, has found game-time hard to come by under new manager Jose Mourinho, and Milan are considering making a move for the former Southampton player.
The Rossoneri have somewhat fallen from grace over the past few seasons and are struggling to hit the heights of winning titles at domestic and European level.
But with the club now under new Far Eastern ownership, they are plotting to restore Milan back to their former glory, and Schneiderlin could become a part of that.
Schneiderlin in need of game time
In his first season at Old Trafford he registered 39 appearances in all competitions for United and impressed at times in midfield.
But with competition high for places in the United centre, with the likes of Paul Pogba, Ander Herrera, Michael Carrick and Marouane Fellaini all vying for spots in the middle of Mourinho’s side, Schneiderlin could be open to a move away.
The Red Devils have played 17 competitive matches this season and the French midfielder has featured in just seven of them, registering just six minutes of Premier League action.
How likely is it?
Schneiderlin has undoubted quality and is tried and tested at Premier League level. Although he may not possess the quality to keep the likes of Pogba, Herrera and Carrick on the bench, he still offers a great deal to the team.
Mourinho could be reluctant to let a player leave the club in January without strengthening himself. A long season means the red devils will undoubtedly be hit by injuries, and if that happened to the likes of particularly Pogba and Herrera then Mourinho will certainly have left himself short.
