Layvin Kurzawa and Dan James either side of halftime helped Fulham advance in the FA Cup with a 2-0 victory over Championship side Hull City at the MKM Stadium.

Kurzawa tapped into an empty net eight minutes before halftime to give the Cottagers the lead and James broke free to add a second with the final kick of the game.

Marco Silva made seven changes to the side and left out star man Aleksandar Mitrovic completely with the result justifying his changes.

The Tigers will now turn their attention back to securing their second-tier status as they currently sit 16th in the Championship table with 33 points.

Story of the match

Hull boss Liam Rosenior made a staggering nine changes to the side that dismantled Wigan in league play last weekend with Matt Ingram, Greg Docherty and Sean McLoughlin retaining their places in the side.

New signing Aaron Connolly, who joined on loan from Brighton, was named to the bench along with the returning Benjamin Tetteh.

The Tigers should have taken the lead in the fourth minute of their 300th FA Cup fixture as Bobby Decordova-Reid failed to deal with a hopeful ball and Harvey Vale poked just wide with only Marek Rodak to beat.

Lewie Coyle saw his low, left-footed effort saved by Rodak and Xavier Simons nearly picked out the run of Tyler Smith at the back post, but the linesman's flag went up for offsides.

Docherty then had a go, his first shot blocked by Tosin Adarabioyo before his second attempt was high and wide of the Fulham goal.

Matt Ingram was then called into action at the other end, pushing Andreas Pereira's left-footed strike over the bar and Callum Elder blocked ex-Hull loanee Harry Wilson's shot.

Pereira then volleyed over after being set up by Tom Cairney before the Cottagers broke the deadlock in the 37th minute. Cairney and Wilson had some neat interplay before the latter shot at Ingram, who parried to leave Kurzawa to score into the far corner.

The hosts went in search for an immediate equalizer as Ozan Tufan had his shot blocked.

On 53 minutes, Cairney tried to double the Londoners' advantage as he attempted to shoot from the edge of the Hull penalty area, but his left-footed effort was narrowly wide of the right-hand post.

Vinicius Jr. dragged his shot wide on the hour mark and a volleyed cross by Smith was firmly held by Rodak. He then punched away Lewie Coyle's delivery intended for substitute Oscar Estupinan.

Ingram then parried James' curler and at the other end Rodak comfortably saved McLoughlin's looping header before he acrobatically pushed Estupinan's header over the bar.

Fulham then put the game to bed deep into second-half stoppage time as they broke on the counter after Hull brought everyone up for a corner and James tapped home into an empty net.

Player of the match: Marek Rodak

A solid, strong and assured performance as the Slovakian netminder made a number of important saves when Hull were on the front foot. Proved he can be a reliable backup to Bernd Leno.
