Tottenham Hotspur beat Eintracht Frankfurt 3-2 on Wednesday evening, which saw them move to the top of Group D in the Champions League.

It was a dominant performance from the Lilywhites, yet a lack of composure in the final five minutes created a nervy finish for the home crowd. Harry Kane missed a penalty, and wasted a glorious chance for Bryan Gil at the death. However, it was still an impressive performance from Antonio Conte's side, who reacted well to going 1-0 down.

This result gives Spurs the opportunity to qualify for the knockouts if they beat Sporting CP in the next round of matches. Meanwhile, Frankfurt sit bottom of the group on four points, but it is still all to play for in Group D. Here are the four main talking points from the match at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

This season Heung-Min Son has failed to live up to last season's form. After winning the Golden Boot in May, many expected him to kick on this season. However, the South Korean has struggled to fire up his cylinders this season.

Despite struggling for goals, the winger returned to his very best against Frankfurt. His first goal needs little explanation. Kane played a delightful through ball to his partner in crime, before Son comfortably slotted it home. It was the 50th goal contribution between the two world class forwards.

Meanwhile, Son's second goal was a piece of magic in front of the home crowd. Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg played a neat cross into the centre of the box, before the South Korean powerfully smashed it into the net on his supposed weak left foot. Last season, Son scored more goals on his left foot, suggesting he doesn't have a weak foot on him.

Although the South Korean superstar was unable to complete his hat trick, it was still a sensational performance from the winger. Conte will be hoping it can fire him into action before this weekend's clash against Everton.

The Spaniard was very close to leaving N17 on loan in August, however Bryan Gil is here to stay around and fight for his place.

The winger came on in the 85th minute and immediately showed his raw talent. Within minutes, he drove forward with the ball, beat the defender, but was unable to create a clear cut chance.

However, in stoppage time, the youngster surged into the box and forced Hrvoje Smolcic to bring him down. It was brilliant footwork from Gil as he won a penalty which Kane was unable to convert.

At the death, Kane was unable to find Gil in the box with a cross despite the Spaniard being unmarked. It would have been a glorious opportunity for Gil to score, but he should still feel pleased with his overall impact from the bench.

  • Spurs take a step closer to qualification

In the buildup to Wednesday's clash, it was being billed as a vital game for Spurs if they wanted to qualify for the knockout stages. The North London side had just four points from their opening three games, and knew a defeat at home to Frankfurt would have been catastrophic.

Despite a shaky start which saw the visitors strike first, Tottenham showed their experience to fight back strongly. The hosts were losing for just five minutes, before Son levelled the score. As soon as the Lilywhites equalised, it seemed almost inevitable that the hosts would claim victory.

Spurs produced 2.9 xG on the night (Fotmob), which shows their superiority. However, this stat is slightly screwed due to the two penalties won for Spurs during the match. In general, it was an impressive performance from Conte's side. It leaves them knowing that a win against Sporting CP in two weeks will leave them top of the group and qualified for the next round.

  • Frankfurt lacked the bite to challenge

Last week, Frankfurt held firm to frustrate the Premier League giants in Germany. However, this week told a different story. Despite starting strongly and taking an early lead, the visitors were weak out of possession, which allowed the Lilywhites to strike back quickly.

In the second half, Frankfurt lost their heads as Tuta was sent walking due to two yellow cards in four minutes. It killed off any chance of a comeback, allowing Tottenham to earn victory easily despite a shaky final five minutes.

Makoto Hasebe was lucky to not receive a second yellow card for a cynical foul on Heung-Min Son. It showed that Frankfurt lacked the experience in the big moments, as their defence crumbled to gift the match to Spurs.

It leaves Frankfurt bottom of the group with just four points. There is work to do for the German giants. Nevertheless, they know two positive results against Sporting CP and Marseille will see them qualify for the knockouts.
