Undefeated British super-bantamweight Kid Galahad has been banned from boxing for two years after testing positive for the steroid Stanolozol.

The 25 year old, real name Abdul-Bari Awad, has blamed brother Mageed for spiking his protein shake with the banned substance after a family disagreement. Mageed, who is currently in prison for unrelated offences, has since admitted the accusation.

Galahad said: "The one thing about it which makes it even worse is that it involves a member of my family, my brother. He did it following a disagreement we had."

"I told my mum and sister and eventually my sister went to see my brother, who is in jail, and he admitted doing this."

Galahad was informed of the failed test three weeks after his last fight in September, a points victory against Adeilson dos Santos in his hometown Sheffield.

Fighting out of the infamous Ingle Gym, which has been home to world champions including Kell Brook, Prince Naseem Hamed and Johnny Nelson, Galahad has a perfect record of 18-0 and has recently been calling out domestic rivals and world champions Carl Frampton and Scott Quigg.

The UK Anti-Doping Panel will be reviewing the case in the coming weeks and, although the former European champion has vowed to clear his name, this will come as a major blow to a very talented young boxer who has been tipped for great things.
