St. Louis Cardinals’ ace Adam Wainwright had one of his best performances this year and he completely tamed the Washington Nationals’ lineup.

Wainwright pitched the full game and only allowed two hits against an offense that includes the likes of Bryce Harper, Adam LaRoche and Ian Desmond – the final two were the only ones able to get a hit against Waino. The Cardinals’ offense did their part and scored plenty of runs on their way to a solid 8-0 win.

The Cardinals jumped quickly over Nationals’ starter Taylor Jordan with three runs in the top of the first. Matt Carpenter scored on a double from Matt Holiday, Kolten Wong later crossed home plate after an RBI groundout from Matt Adams and Holiday came around after an RBI single from Yadier Molina.

A run in the fourth thanks to Jhonny Peralta, three in the sixth – Holiday with an RBI single and Matt Adams with a two-run RBI single – and another in the seventh – Jon Jay on a single from Kolten Wong – completed a spectacular offensive performance. The real story, however, was Waino’s performance on the mound.

Wainwright allowed only two hits over the course of the game but he was completely dominant throwing strikes and off-setting hitters.  Wainwright struck out eight, walked three, and dominated the opposition which was a tough, offensive minded team. This may not be a constant over the course of the season, but there’s no secret that the Cardinals have huge chances of repeating their World Series trip if the Cardinals continue to play like this.
