Yasiel Puig and Zack Greinke were firing on all cylinders Friday night as the Los Angeles Dodgers def, eated NL West foe San Francisco Giants, 8-1, in the opener of the three game series at AT&T Park.  The Dodgers entered the night a game and half behind the Giants for first place in the NL West.  Following Friday night's win they have now cut it to a half game.

Greinke struck out 10 batters through his seven innings pitched, picking up his 12th win of the season. Greinke gave up four hits and one walk as he held  the Giants scoreless.  Greinke gave the Giants no chance as he recorded four strikeouts in the third inning after Hunter Pence reached on a strikeout that got away from catcher AJ Ellis.

Yasiel Puig became the first Dodger with three triples in 113 years, and becomes the third player in major league history with three triples in a game since 1914. After sitting out the series in Pittsburgh after taking a pitch off the left hand in St. Louis, Puig was well rested and ready to go. Puig finished the night 4-fo-5, adding a double and fly out to his three triples. Puig became the first Dodger with two triples and a double in a game since Sandy Amores in 1956.  Dee Gordon and Matt Kemp each added a triple, setting a Los Angeles Dodgers record with five triples in a single game. Gordon becomes the first Dodger with 10 triples since Kenny Lofton had 12 in 2006 and finished the evening 3-for-5.

Gonzalez singled in the first inning to drive in Puig and put the Dodgers on the scoreboard first. Gonzalez went 2-for-4 with two RBI’s, giving him 67 this season.

Los Angeles poured on five runs in the fifth inning, recording five straight hits at one point.  A triple from Gordon scored Greinke and Puig followed with one of his three triples to drive in Gordon. Adrian Gonzalez singled to bring in Puig  and Kemp tripled to drive in Gonzalez and Hanley Ramirez.  Puig drove in Gordon again with a triple in the sixth and the scoring continued in the eighth with a Ramirez single to left, driving in Andre Ethier.

Puig and Ramirez combined to go 6-for-10 with three RBI’s after missing the Pittsburgh series with hand injuries.

The Dodgers will send out Clayton Kershaw for game two in San Francisco.
