Los Angeles Angels pitcher Garrett Richards suffered a knee injury on Wednesday night, and he had to be carted off of the field.

With one out in the bottom of the second inning, the Angels were trying to turn a double play. Brock Holt hit a ground ball to Angels' first baseman Albert Pujols. He then threw to shortstop Erick Aybar to get the force out on David Ross at second base, but there was no throw back to first base. Garrett Richards had gone to cover first base to get ready for the throw from Aybar, but stumbled as he approached the first base bag. Richards was in significant pain on the ground and had to be carted off the field.

The Angels say that Richards suffered a left knee/patellar injury, but will get re-evaluated Thursday. With the Angels maintaining their strong playoff push, it would definitely hurt to lose one of their best pitchers. Cory Rasmus replaced Richards on the mound and earned the win. The Angels beat the Boston Red Sox 8-3.
