Here are Friday's minor transactions from around baseball ...

-The Chicago White Sox outrighted outfielder Michael Taylor to Triple-A Charlotte; Taylor elected costless agency

-The Kansas City Royals claimed outfielder Moises Sierra off outright waivers from the Chicago White Sox

The Royals claiming Sierra off waivers comes at a surprising time of the year as the club is in the midst of competing in the World Series. However, Sierra will add some depth to the Royals' outfield come next season. The 26-year-old batted .230/.265/.342 while hitting a couple of homers and driving in nine RBI in 170 Major League plate appearances between the Toronto Blue Jays and the White Sox. His dismal 13-game performance with the Blue Jays (.059/.086/.059 in 35 plate appearances) this past season forced the club to place him on waivers, and he was claimed by the White Sox in early May. He did much better in his stint with Chicago as he batted .276/.311/.417 while driving in seven RBI in 135 plate appearances. He can be controlled by the Kansas City Royals through the 2019 season if the club chooses to keep him that long and is not eligible for arbitration until 2017.

-The Kansas City Royals designated right-handed pitcher Liam Hendriks for assignment

The Royals made space for Sierra by designating Hendriks for assignment. The 25-year-old tossed just 19 1/3 innings for Kansas City after he was acquired by the club from the Blue Jays mid-season. He posted a 4.66 ERA in six Major League appearances (three starts) with the Royals. He fared much better in Triple-A Omaha as he posted a 2.83 ERA in five starts spanning 35 innings.

-The Baltimore Orioles outrighted right-handed pitcher Steve Johnson to Triple-A Norfolk; Johnson elected costless agency
