The New York Mets and Colorado Rockies are in discussions about Rockies' shortstop Troy Tulowitzki. The Mets announced earlier on Monday that they have signed former Colorado outfielder Michael Cuddyer to fill their left field void, but still lack a solid shortstop. Jeff Passan of Yahoo Sports is reporting that Tulowitzki is high on the Mets wishlist, though they fear they may not be able to meet the Rockies' asking price

Tulowitzki would be a perfect fit for the Mets. The Mets need a shortstop, after just surviving a full season with Wilmer Flores and Ruben Tejada. They hit a combined .243 in 2014. Tulowitzki, 30, has hit 20+ home runs in 6 seasons in his career. When he is healthy, there is no better shortstop in baseball.

The Mets are weary of his injury issues, as he has not played a season of more than 140 games since 2011. Tulowitzki is owed $20 million annually through 2019, so he would be a large investment for a team that has not liked to spend much in recent years.

The Rockies love the Mets young pitching. They were reported to be scouting Mets top prospect Noah Syndergaard, along with Zack Wheeler and Rafael Montero. Mets catching prospect Kevin Plawecki and outfield prospect Brandon Nimmo would likely be part of a deal with Colorado, as well.

He would be an immediate upgrade, and well worth it for the Mets, if they want to be in contention this upcoming year.
