The San Diego Padres have been one of the more active teams in baseball’s off-season, and they may not be done yet.

The Padres are in talks with the Tampa Bay Rays about outfielder Wil Myers. The rumor was first reported by Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports.

San Diego has had their hats in on many of the big name sluggers this off-season, as they made a substantial offer to Pablo Sandoval and heavily scouted Yasmany Tomas, before acquiring outfielder Matt Kemp.

Myers, 24, would be a significant addition for San Diego. He won Rookie of the Year in 2013, and is considered one of the bright young players in the game today, despite an injury-ravaged 2014 campaign.

Last season, Myers slumped to a triple-slash line of .222/.294/.324, with six homers and 35 RBI’s. Myers only played in 87 games, after missing a chunk of time with a wrist injury.

The Padres and Rays have discussed some of the Padres best prospects, including catcher Austin Hedges and starting pitcher Matt Wisler, according to Chris Cotillo of SB Nation. The two teams have also talked about pitchers Burch Smith and R.J. Alvarez, both from San Diego’s system.

San Diego has been all over the place this off-season, targeting sluggers like Justin Upton and Jay Bruce in trades. Myers comes with five years of control and talents that made him the top prospect in baseball just two years ago. Yahoo Sports Jeff Passan also reports that sources within the industry that the trade is close to fruition.

If the Padres were to acquire Myers, it would seemingly put them out of the Justin Upton sweepstakes, although the Padres could still look to acquire one more bat, likely at the infield corners
