The Detroit Tigers had a split-squad playing both the New York Yankees and Philladelphia Phillies. Both games took place at 1:05 PM EST. The game against the Phillies was at Joker Marchant Stadium in Lakeland, Florida. The game against the Yankees was in Tampa, Florida.

Tigers vs. Phillies:

The Tigers lost to the Phillies, 5-4. Anibal Sanchez struggled and gave up three runs in the first inning. Brian Bogusevic blasted a two-run home run in the first, then in the third he dropped his second shot off Sanchez to make it a 4-1 game.

The Tigers tied the game 4-4, but in the ninth, catcher Shane Zeile let a pass ball to go by and Russ Canzler scored for the Phillies to win the game.

The fans at Joker Marchant Stadium started to boo Sanchez in the first inning and Joe Nathan came into the fifth inning and was booed. All in all, Sanchez pitched four total innings and allowed four hits and one walk, while giving up four runs. He did strikeout three.

Anthony Gose continued his impressive spring training with a first inning walk and then he scored after a sacrifice fly by Daniel Fields. Gose is batting .520 this spring. Hernan Perez was 3-for-4 with a run scored.

Tigers vs. Yankees:

The Tigers fell to the Yankees, 4-1 in Tampa, Florida. Josh Wilson hit a groundout that scored Rajai Davis from third base. That was the only run the Tigers could manage.

Kyle Lobstein, a left-handed starting pitcher, gave up one run on three hits over three innings. He struck out two hitters.

Kyle Ryan did a great job out of the bullpen by pitching two innings of perfect baseball. Rafael Dolis struggled once again, giving up two runs and four hits over just one inning. It seems like he struggles every time he pitches. Ian Krol gave up the fourth run to the Yankees.

There was really no real offensive talent that stood out for the Tigers. J.D. Martinez and Steven Moya struggled. Nick Castellanos went 1-for-3, but was not able to score or drive anyone home.

Michael Pineda started for the Yankees. He was very successful, giving up no hits to the Tigers over three innings. Pineda struck out four hitters.

The Tigers will play the Miami Marlins in Jupiter, Florida at 1:05 PM EST on Sunday. Alfredo Simon will get the start for the Tigers to face off against righty Dan Haren
