The Detroit Tigers took on the St. Louis Cardinals in Lakeland, Florida. The Tigers used pure power to muscle their way to a 4-3 win over the Cardinals.

Shane Greene made his fourth start in a Tigers uniform and shined. He struck out the side in the first inning and was dominant for all five of his innings. After 90 pitches, he allowed three runs (one earned) on three hits and three walks. Greene struck out six and looked much better than he has in the past.

Miguel Cabrera took Cardinals starter Lance Lynn deep in the bottom of the first for his second home run of the spring. It was a two-run shot that went opposite-field. He looked good in the field as well. Cabrera has not homered in two straight games. The Big Fella is 5-for-13 since debuting on Sunday.

With the Tigers down 3-2 in the bottom of the seventh, Alex Avila led off by taking Cardinals reliever Mitch Harris over the right-center field wall to tie the game at 3-3. Jordan Lennerton has continued to impress this spring as he hit a double to drive in Ian Kinsler with the game-winning run in the eighth. Kinsler, who had singled to lead off the inning, now has an eight-game hitting streak.

Al Alburquerque and Ian Krol each pitched scoreless innings. Krol stuck out two but walked one hitter.

The Tigers (10-16) will face the Philadelphia Phillies (11-14) in Clearwater, Florida on Sunday. Detroit will send Anibal Sanchez (0-0, 3.93 ERA) to the mound to face Aaron Harang (0-0, 1.80 ERA) from Philadelphia. The first pitch is at 1:05 PM EST.
