Tuesday night's game between the San Diego Padres and Pittsburgh Pirates at PNC Park was interesting to say the least. This was one of the most memorable games for two different happenings.

The Pirates sent Francisco Liriano to the mound and his mound opponent was Tyson Ross.

Liriano pitched six innings, giving up just two earned runs and scattering four hits in that time. Liriano received a no decision.

His mound opponent, Tyson Ross, exited after two innings because of a rain delay. That rain delay brought on one of the more memorable moments because a grounds crew member for the Pirates had gotten swept under the tarp from strong winds. However, Pirates all-star Andrew McCutchen stood with teammates Sean Rodriguez and Gregory Polanco and ran to help after seeing the groundscrew member fall.

After the rain delay was over, Matt Kemp delivered a double against Francisco Liriano in the top of the third inning.

The Pirates responded quickly, as Andrew McCutchen doubled in Neil Walker to make it 2-1. The double extended McCutchen's hitting streak to fourteen games, a career best.

Pittsburgh got even in the bottom of the fifth inning. With Neil Walker on second base, Jung Ho Kang delivered a triple to drive in the game-tying run. The at-bat before Kang was the second memorable moment from this one.

Andrew McCutchen drilled a pitch to left field but he was robbed by Justin Upton of the Padres. Upton went up and brought back McCutchen's homer but Neil Walker was still alert of it and tagged up to get to second base. Nonetheless, that was one of the best plays in PNC Park history.

And the unlikely hero of this game cannot go unmentioned. The Pirates scored the go-ahead and eventual game-winning run thanks to an unlikely hero. This player has struggled and to be fair, he has been a disappointment for the Pirates thus far. But time and time again, moments like these remind one that baseball is a team sport. This hero was Gregory Polanco, who has been enduring some of his worst struggles lately. But on Tuesday, Polanco silenced that struggle with a triple to score Sean Rodriguez and put the Pirates up 3-2.

Mark Melancon came in for the save opportunity in the ninth inning for the Pirates. Melancon gave up a single in the ninth but the Padres still ended up going quietly as Melancon earned his 28th save of the season.

The win gave the Pirates their first series win at home against the Padres since 2000. It also moves the Pirates just 4.5 games back of the St. Louis Cardinals for first place in the National League Central. The Cardinals were swept in their doubleheader with the Cubs on Tuesday.

Wednesday night the Pirates send Charlie Morton (6-2, 4.30 ERA) to the mound against Andrew Cashner (3-9, 4.06 ERA) of the Padres. The Pirates seek their league-leading 10th sweep of the season on Wednesday.
