The Detroit Tigers have finally given in and started trading key players, starting with outfielder Yoenis Cespedes. According to Bruce Levine of MLB.com, the Tigers have dealt Cespedes to the New York Mets

In return, the Tigers acquired right-handed pitchers Michael Fulmer and Luis Cessa from the Mets, according to Joel Sherman of the New York Post.

The Tigers have changed their mind over and over when it comes to throwing in the towel and trading away key parts of their team, but as Jon Heyman of CBS Sports noted, the team is officially in rebooting mode, not rebuilding.

The Tigers have already dealt ace David Price to the Toronto Blue Jays for three minor-league left-handed pitchers. Cespedes is a corner outfielder who can slug, which is what the Mets where looking to add all along.

Cespedes has gotten better and better during his four-year career. He defected from Cuba and was signed by the Oakland Athletics in 2012. The 29-year-old is only a rental player because he is due to become a free agent next season.

The Cuban slugger is hitting .289/.321/.500 with 17 home runs and 58 RBI, which will lead to his best season since his first in 2012 with the Athletics. During his 2012 season, he finished second to Mike Trout of the Los Angeles Angels in the American League Rookie of the Year. Trout blew everyone away, hitting .326 with 30 home runs and 83 RBI over 139 games in Los Angeles. Cespedes took All-Star honors in his 2014 season, which he played 101 games in Oakland and 51 as a member of the Boston Red Sox

Fulmer, 22, is the big piece coming to Detroit in this deal. He was a first round draft pick by the Mets in the 2011 MLB Draft. He has swing-and-miss stuff and should make a difference at the Major League level in 2016.

The righty has pitched in Double-A Binghamton for the Mets this season. He is 6-2 with a 1.88 ERA over 15 games and 86.0 innings pitched. Fulmer has a 1.116 WHIP and gives up just 0.3 home runs per nine innings, while striking out 8.7 per nine innings.

The other pitcher coming to Detroit is Cessa, a righty form Veracruz, Mexico. The 23-year-old is 0-3 with an 8.51 ERA in Triple-A Las Vegas this season over five starts, but he also pitched in Double-A earlier this season.

Earlier in 2015, with Double-A, Cessa went 7-4 with a 2.56 ERA over 13 games. Those stats prove that the numbers are there, but he needs more experience at the Minor League level. Detroit should slot him in Double-A for 2015 and Triple-A for 2016 before deciding if he should be called up to the Big Leagues.

The Tigers are still looking to deal a few of their players (Rajai Davis, Alex Avila and Alfredo Simon), if they can pass through waivers. Detroit has lost their number one pitcher, their closer and top outfielder. If they can rebuild the rotation, the team should be able to compete in 2016 and 2017.
