After losing a heartbreaker in the ninth inning of Saturday, the Texas Rangers finally wrapped things up with a dominating win over the Los Angeles Angels.

The Angels have been staying alive with wins in the past two ball games, but Sunday, they couldn't quite finish it off falling one game short of the playoffs.

Los Angeles looked like they were going to make it tough for the Rangers to clinch the AL West as right off of the bat in the first inning, Albert Pujols hit a deep home run out to center field to put the Angels out in front early, 2-0.

The Rangers cut into that lead in the bottom of the first when Prince Fielder came up with an RBI single to score Delino DeShields and make it a 2-1 game.

From there, Rangers starter Cole Hamels settled in and pitched a fantastic ballgame. Texas acquired Hamels with these type of games in mind, and Hamels didn't disappoint. He pitched a complete game giving up just two runs on three hits while striking out eight and walking two.

The Rangers kept adding on as in the fifth, Adrian Beltre came up with a clutch two-run home run to put Texas on top 3-2. From there, they just kept adding on and didn't look back.

The seventh inning was when the Rangers really broke it open and put it out of reach. With the bases loaded and no outs, Prince Fielder had a long at bat before drawing a walk and forcing in a run. That was followed by an RBI single by Adrian Beltre, a sac fly by Mitch Moreland, an RBI single by Josh Hamilton, and a two-RBI single by Elvis Andrus which capped off of a big six run inning for the Rangers to put them up 9-2.

For Angels starter Garrett Richards, it wasn't the outing they needed in a must win situation. He went six innings giving up three runs on six hits while striking out six and walking two. It wasn't so much Richards as it was the bullpen. Cam Bedrosian, Cesar Ramos, and Mike Morin combined to give up two runs each and that was what really hurt the Angels chances in this one.

The Angels just couldn't get anything going in this one other than the first inning as they could only pound out three hits in this one against Hamels who pitched one of his best games as a member of the Rangers.

With the Rangers winning the AL West, they will open the American League playoffs as the three seed and will play the Blue Jays in the ALDS. It is their first division title since 2011.

With the loss by the Angels, that automatically clinched a spot for the Astros in one of the two Wild Card positions.
