The 2015 Women's Football Alliance (WFA) season is upon us. The Seattle Majestics will travel down Interstate 5 to take on their regional rival, the Portland Fighting Fillies. The season opens for the Majestics on Saturday, April 11th.

For those of you out there that may not know what or who the Majestics are, let yours truly fill you in. These women play 11-on-11 full pad American football. They were first established in 2002 as the Tacoma Majestics and went 24-2 in their first three years. They even played in the Western Conference Championship game in 2005. After the 2005 season, the Majestics and Seattle Warbirds merged. The team moved to Seattle and were renamed the Seattle Majestics. The next seven years were very impressive as the team compiled a record of 49-15 which included six division titles, one conference championship and one national championship. That's right; the Seahawks aren't the only ones that win at football in the city.

In 2012, the Majestics got a new owner who gave them a new look to somewhat mirror the other professional teams in the greater Seattle area. In 2014, the Majestics officially became a 501(c) 3 non-profit organization. The new structure should allow them to better raise funds to attract the best talent that women's football has out there.

The WFA season runs from April until June with postseason play in July and August. The players and coaches start practicing in January and even had an exhibition game on March 6th. They played against Performance Zone's Mexico All-Stars and won 40-8. The Majestics rushed for 335 yards and the defense had four sacks and caused four turnovers.

This writer watched the game against Mexico and came away thoroughly impressed. These women are the real deal and when they play their first game at home on April 25th when they host Portland at French Field in Kent. Seriously, come watch them. They are amazing.
