The NASCAR Camping World Truck Series were on the track at Daytona International Speedway on Thursday for two practice sessions.

Austin Hill, in number 82, took the top spot in the first practice session that ran from 1:30pm - 2:25pm ET. Hill had a time of 47.743 seconds, which was a speed of 188.51mph whilst he was in a draft and pack of 15 trucks.

Travis Kvapil, John Wes Townley, defending series champion Matt Crafton, and Ty Dillon rounded out the top five.

The short session for the Truck Series drivers started with a number of teams experimenting by running in the draft with other drivers. Spencer Gallagher, in truck number 23, was quickest early on with a time of 50.886 seconds, but rookie Cameron Hayley, in number 11, then went on top with a 49.007 after running with Timothy Peters and Ben Kennedy.

As more drivers began to make their way out onto the track, within the first ten minutes, the name at the top of the board moved around until Scott Lagasse posted a 48.557 second lap time.

With ten minutes elapsed, James Buescher, in number 31, was quickest with a lap time of 48.070 seconds and a speed of 187.23mph. Buescher is looking for a full-time sponsor so that he can get back to running the series completely, as he is only scheduled to run five races at the minute.

The track went quiet for 10-15 minutes until half an hour to go when a pack of 15 trucks got together in two lines. With 28 to go, Peters, in truck number 17, who was leading the inside line, went the quickest in a 47.977 second lap but was quickly replaced by number 33, Ty Dillon, who posted 47.922 seconds.

At the half way point, Dillon led the leaderboard with Lagasse, Hemric, Peters and Buescher making up the top five. As the clock wound down to 24, the pack got even bigger as trucks caught up and made it three wide briefly, and Austin Hill, in truck number 82, went the fastest with a 47.743 second lap.

The pack dispersed with 20 minutes to go as drivers returned to their garages, and Hill, Kvapil, Townley, Crafton and Dillon made up the top five as 35 trucks had posted a lap. Dillon spoke to FOX in the garage area.

"I'm just happy when I'm out there on the track so I can't wait to run every race this weekend," he said.

With just ten minutes to go, the track had silenced down, as drivers and teams worked on their cars, getting ready for the second practice session at 3:30pm ET.

A new pack formed with seven minutes to go as six trucks came out of the pits together, led by Austin Theriault, in truck number 29.
