The Orlando Magic have decided to waive long-time point guard Jameer Nelson. Nelson, 32, spent 10 seasons with the Magic.

Orlando will costless up $6 million in cap room with this move. Nelson was entering the final year of his contract. His contract was partially guaranteed and was worth $8 million, but the Magic will only need to pay Jameer $2 million now.

Nelson, who has graciously proven his loyalty to the Magic organization, will most likely move on to a playoff team. Perhaps the Indiana Pacers could look into signing him since they need help at the point guard position.

In 651 total games with the Orlando Maigc, Jameer Nelson averaged 12.6 points, 5.4 assists, and 1.0 steals per game. He was an NBA All-Star in 2009 and was the final piece from Orlando’s 2009 Finals run.

The Magic acquired point guard Elfrid Payton on draft night, and they want him to be their future. Orlando also traded away Arron Afflalo prior to the draft on Thursday. The Magic are now expected to pursue a veteran guard through costless agency, one that wouldn’t cost them too much, to replace Afflalo and Nelson. Darren Collison and Rodney Stuckey could be potential options.

However, Orlando Magic have now claimed Willie Green off waivers. Green was waived by the Los Angeles Clippers on June 29.
