Evan Turner has reached an agreement with the Boston Celtics. Steve Bulpett of the Boston Herald reported first that Turner was finalizing a deal with the Celtics for a portion of the mid-level exception. The full terms of his contract have not been disclosed, but his deal may be for two years.

The Pacers declined Evan Turner’s $8.7 million offer sheet before the start of costless agency, thus making him an unrestricted costless agent, which was expected.

Evan Turner is a great scorer and solid play maker, who can play the three spot or the two. The Celtics may use him as a backup small forward to Jeff Green, but they do have a log jam at both the shooting guard and small forward positions.

Turner was phenomenal as a member of the Philadelphia 76ers, averaging 17.4 points, 6.0 rebounds, and 3.7 assists on 34.9 minutes per game. However, he was traded to the Indiana Pacers mid-way through the season where his numbers along with his minutes dipped considerably.

Turner would have possibly earned more money had he finished last season with the Sixers averaging the numbers he averaged. He was traded to the Pacers in the Danny Granger deal, and his role was immediately reduced.

The Minnesota Timberwolves also had strong interest in Evan Turner, but they did not want to give him a two-year deal in order to have more cap space next off-season.
