As many expected, the Los Angeles Lakers have offered Byron Scott their head coaching job. Both sides are negotiating a deal, according to Chris Broussard of ESPN.

Scott has been considered the favorite for a long time now. He had three interviews with the Lakers and it was only a matter of time. The offer that the Lakers have given Scott is unknown at this time.

The Lakers had interest in many other coaches, including Lionel Hollins, until he was hired by the Brooklyn Nets. Mike Dunleavy Sr., Kurt Rambis, Derek Fisher, and Alvin Gentry were other candidates. However, most of those coaches found a job elsewhere, leaving the Lakers with an easy choice to make.

It has been Scott’s dream job to coach his beloved Lakers. He last coached with the Cleveland Cavaliers during the 2012-13 season and was most recently working for Time Warner Sports Net as a Lakers analyst.

Scott has accumulated a record of 449-545 in his coaching career with the New Jersey Nets (now the Brooklyn Nets), New Orleans Hornets (now the Pelicans), and Cleveland Cavaliers.
