The Los Angeles Lakers have officially announced the hiring of their new head coach Byron Scott, who signs a four-year, $17 million deal including a team option for the final year.

According to Mike Bresnahan of Los Angeles Times, the Lakers will soon form Byron Scott’s coaching staff. Some of the possible candidates include Johnny Davis, Paul Pressey, Mark Madsen, and Robert Horry.

Johnny Davis is the most experienced out of the bunch mentioned above. He began his head coaching career in 1996 with the Philadelphia 76ers. He was also the head coach of the Orlando Magic (2003-2005), and the Memphis Grizzlies (2009). Prior to being a head coach, Davis was an assistant coach with the Atlanta Hawks, Los Angeles Clippers, Portland Trail Blazers, New Jersey Nets, Orlando Magic, Minnesota Timberwolves, and Indiana Pacers. He's also been an assistant coach for the Memphis Grizzlies, Toronto Raptors, and these Los Angeles Lakers (last season).

Paul Pressey, father of NBA basketball player Phil Pressey, has had previous NBA assistant coaching experiences with the Golden State Warriors, San Antonio Spurs, Orlando Magic, Boston Celtics, New Orleans Hornets, and Cleveland Cavaliers. In Cleveland, Pressey was once again part of Scott's coaching staff.

Mark Madsen, a former Los Angeles Lakers player, was part of the Lakers coaching staff last season as well. He took over the player development coaching position on July 19, 2013. Prior to joining the Lakers staff, Madsen was also an assistant coach with the Utah Flash of the NBA D-League. He was later an assistant at Stanford, where he played college ball. Afterward, he became the head coach of the Lakers’ D-League affiliate, the Los Angeles D-Fenders.

Robert Horry, formerly known as “Big Shot Bob,” was an ex-Laker as well. He has zero coaching experience but was a player for 16 years. During his career, Horry accomplished seven NBA championships, three with the Lakers, two with the Spurs, and two with the Houston Rockets. Horry has remained close to the Lakers organization as he is an analyst for Time Warner Cable Sports Net.

Nothing has been made official with these potential Lakers assistant coaches, but most of them have connections with the franchise and are in good position to land a job on Scott’s staff.

Here is what Lakers General Manager Mitch Kupchak had to say about Byron Scott’s hiring. “After an extensive and thorough search, we’re proud to welcome Byron back to the Lakers family as our next head coach.”

Furthermore, here is what Byron Scott said about officially getting, in what he calls, his “dream job.” “I am ecstatic to once again be a Laker and to have the opportunity to work alongside Mitch and the Buss family. I know firsthand what it takes to bring a championship to this city. I will give everything I have to fulfill the championship expectations that our supporters have for us and that we have for ourselves.

The Los Angeles Lakers will hold a press conference for Byron Scott on Tuesday at 11 am Pacific time.
