Blake Griffin, who has a stress fracture in his back, will not be playing for the USA team that particiaptes in the FIBA tournament. Griffin last week withdrew from Team USA training camp for the FIBA Cup. He was advised by doctors he has a small fracture in his back, and it will take more time to heal before the start of the next NBA season, sources with knowledge of the situation told ESPN.com.
Blake is expected to make a full and speedy recovery from the setback, which according to some sources was suffered from the playoffs. The reason possibly why doctors have told Griffin not to play in the FIBA tournament is because of safety reasons.
According to ESPN LA, during the summer, Griffin is working out with DeAndre Jordan and Sasha Vujacic, who played with the team for a short time last season. Both Griffin and Kevin Love, who plays for the Minnesota Timberwolves, withdrew last week, making team USA weak in the front court for the tournament.
In a statement, USA Basketball said Love was unable to participate "because of his current status," a thinly veiled reference to the trade talks that have dragged on since June.
