John Salmons has officially signed a one-year, $2 million deal with the New Orleans Pelicans, his agent confirmed to USA Today Sports’ Sam Amick Tuesday afternoon.

Salmons started the summer with the Toronto Raptors, but he was traded to the Atlanta Hawks in the Lou Williams deal a day before the start of costless agency.

The Hawks wasted no time. They waived him almost immediately. Once a costless agent, Salmons agreed to sign with the Pelicans, but his deal was unknown until now.

Salmons is a 12-year veteran and could provide leadership to the young Pelicans. Along with veteran knowledge, Salmons can also supply his new team with some scoring if given the minutes.

He has played for five different teams throughout his career, averaging 9.4 points and 2.0 rebounds per game. His best days came with the Milwaukee Bucks and Chicago Bulls where he was averaging over 18 points a game.

Salmons figures to replace Al-Farouq Aminu, who earlier in the summer signed with the Dallas Mavericks.

With the re-signing of Darius Miller as well, the New Orleans Pelicans have shored up their wing positions.
