Ukraine, led by former successful NBA head coach Mike Fratello, exploded for a 14-0 third quarter run that helped them clinch a 72-62 win over the Dominican Republic.

Ukraine defeated Dominican Republic 72-62 in group stages of the 2014 FIBA World Cup at Bizkaia Arena in Bilboa, Spain.

The game was tied up 27-27 at the half, but Ukraine bursted for a 14-0 run to start the third quarter that would help them seal a victory. 

Former Sacramento Kings player Euguene Jeter scored 16 points for Ukraine, while former Detroit Pistons and Phoenix Suns player Viacheslav Kravstov added 12 points.

Houston Rocket Fernando Garcia led the way for Dominican Repulic with 18 points, while MVP of the Dominican League Edgar Sosa added 11 points.

The Dominican Repulic shot 46% from the field but just 26% from three-point range and 50% from the costless throw line prevented them from winning.

Ukraine, coached by former head coach of the Cleveland Cavaliers, Atlanta Hawks, and Memphis Grizzlies Mike Fratello, shot 443% from both the field and three-point line, while their 69% from the costless throw line edged the Dominicans.

The Dominican Republic will look to bounce back tomorrow, August 31 versus New Zealand at 6:30 am ET.

For Ukraine, their next game is also tomorrow at 10:00 am ET  vs. Finland.
