Senegal defeated Puerto Rico in the group stages of the 2014 FIBA World Cup in Spain.

Senegal went on a 10-2 run in the beginning of the fourth quarter to seal the victory. Puerto Rico had a 29-20 lead at the end of the first quarter, but managed to score just 11 points in the second quarter. Senegal managed to out score Puerto Rico in every quarter, except the first.

Former Georgia Tech player Mouhammad Faye led the way for Senegal with 20 points, while current Minnesota Timberwolves center Gorgui Dieng contributed 18 points and 13 boards for Senegal.

Puerto Rico was led by former New York Knick Renaldo Balkman who finished with 21 points and 7 rebounds. Current Minnesota Timberwolf J.J. Barea also contributed for Puerto Rico as he added 15 points, while former Boston Celtic Carlos Arroyo finished with 11 points.

Puerto Rico shot 44 percent from the field and 41 percent from threes. They made 12 of out 29 from threes and 14-32 from the field. Pureto Rico made 11 of their 17 costless throw attempts. The Puerto Ricans did not necessarily shoot bad, but their defense was subpar. 

Senegal shot an efficient 60.5 percent from the field but only 35 percent from three-point territory. Senegal made just 7-20 shots from three-point range, but it did not cost them the game. Senegel shot very poorly from the costless throw line, though, hitting 15 out of 27. 

Senegal is now 1-1 in the tourtament and will look for another victory as they will play Croatia on September 1st at 6:30 am Eastern Time.

Puerto Rico is now 0-2 in the tourtament and will look to pick up their first victory as they play Greece on Monday at 12 pm Eastern Time.
