Charlotte Hornets rookie Noah Vonleh will be out 6-8 weeks after undergoing successful surgery to repair a sports hernia suffered during recent workouts, according to Marc J. Spears of Yahoo! Sports.

Vonleh was the ninth overall pick by the Hornets in the 2014 NBA Draft. He averaged 11.3 points, 9.0 rebounds, and 1.4 blocks per game at Indiana University.

With Josh McRoberts’ departure and Vonleh’s injury, the Charlotte Hornets will be thin at the power forward position for a while, which begs the question if they should sign a costless agent big man to fill in.

Vonleh will miss training camp and will most likely be out the entire pre-season and could also miss a week or two of the regular season. He figures to play a huge role upon his return from injury.

The 19-year old has a bright future but will now have to fight through an early injury in his young career. Sports hernia, a groin injury, requires absolute patience and care, so his timetable could extend.

For now, the Charlotte Hornets will count heavily on Al Jefferson in the paint on both ends of the floor.
