Another game, another blowout loss for the Los Angeles Lakers. The Phoenix Suns opened up the season the right way, torching the Lakers with hot shooting.

The Lakers lost Julius Randle Tuesday night but gained Wayne Ellington, who came back from a concussion he suffered during the preseason. The Suns had P.J. Tucker out as he is serving a three-game suspension.

The game started with a couple of pick and roll plays by Eric Bledsoe who found Miles Plumlee for easy dunks. After that, Marcus Morris got it going with a couple of threes. The Suns were moving the ball around nicely, finding open looks from beyond the arc. The Suns hit five threes in the first quarter and led by as much as 18 points but finished the period with a 33-19 lead.

The Lakers chipped away at the lead in the second quarter. Wayne Ellington and Ed Davis came off the bench and played really well as the Lakers cut the lead down to four at one point. Kobe Bryant filled it up in the second quarter as well to keep the Lakers within striking distance.

Phoenix led 59-50 at halftime behind Eric Bledsoe’s 12 points, five assists, and four rebounds. Kobe Bryant had 19 first half points.

The Lakers, known for slow third quarters last season, came out sluggish as always. They allowed the Suns to outscore them by 16 in the quarter and fell behind by 25. Goran Dragic, who had a quiet first half, came alive in the third and took over the game.

Kobe was again trying to do it all for the Lakers, but frustration got the best of him as he received a technical and sat out the rest of the game shortly after. Eric Bledsoe got emotional in the third as well and was ejected after receiving two technical fouls.

The Suns continued to thrash the Lakers in the fourth quarter behind little Isaiah Thomas, who torched the Lakers with threes. Phoenix closed out the game and won 119-99.

The Suns shot sizzling hot from the field as they went 45-of-82, good for 54.9 percent. They also hit 50 percent of their threes and were a plus-36 in that category.

Isaiah Thomas led the Suns with 23 points and three assists on 9-of-11 shooting and 5-for-7 from beyond the arc. Marcus Morris put in 21 points in 29 minutes as he hit 5-of-9 from three. Goran Dragic scored 18 points and grabbed five boards, while Bledsoe pushed in 16 points, nine assists, and six rebounds. It was an all-around impressive victory by the Suns.

Meanwhile, it was the same story for the Lakers. Kobe Bryant led the team with 31 points on 11-of-25 shooting. Ed Davis and Wayne Ellington were solid off the bench with 14 and 13 points respectively. Davis also added nine rebounds, three assists, two steals, and two blocks. Carlos Boozer and Jeremy Lin, the two guys who are projected to be the second and third scoring options, struggled terribly. Boozer had just four points, four rebounds, and eight turnovers. Lin only put in six points.

The Lakers will play another tough opponent on Friday, October 31, their cross town rivals the Los Angeles Clippers. The Suns will play the defending champions San Antonio Spurs that same night at home.

Once again, the Lakers couldn’t find any scoring outside of Kobe, especially in the starting lineup. The defense was dreadful, and the offense was stagnant, with too many shots late in the shot clock. This is going to be a long, frustrating season for Kobe and company.

The Lakers now drop to 0-2 in the season, while the Phoenix Suns improve to 1-0.
