After hours of talking, Ricky Rubio has agreed to sign a four-year, $55 million contract extension with the Minnesota Timberwolves. Rubio could make an extra $1 million in incentives, reports Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo! Sports.

Rubio has averaged 10.2 points, 8.1 assists, and 4.1 rebounds in three seasons. He is in his fourth year with the Timberwolves and is now part of the rebuilding project they got going there.

Rubio becomes the ninth player from the 2011 draft class to receive a contract extension. Kyrie Irving, Kenneth Faried, Nikola Vucevic, Kemba Walker, Alec Burks, Klay Thompson, and the Morris twins have all signed their contract extensions.

Andrew Wiggins, Nikola Pekovic, and Ricky Rubio will now become the cornerstone of this franchise. One question mark that remains with Rubio is his offensive game. He has shot an abysmal 36.9 percent from the field in his career and will need to drastically improve that side of the ball if he is going to succeed the future for Minnesota.

The Timberwolves beat the extension deadline by three hours. There may be a few more extensions to be signed before the deadline is up.
