The Memphis Grizzlies hung tough on the road to defeat the defending champions San Antonio Spurs, 117-116, in their first triple overtime game since December 2006.

Marc Gasol had 26 points and nine rebounds, which included a three pointer at the buzzer in the final quarter to force overtime, while Zach Randolph added 21 points and 21 rebounds to frustrate the San Antonio Spurs, 117-116, at the AT&T Center.

Memphis started scorching hot, outscoring the San Antonio Spurs in the first frame, 34-19, behind Vince Carter, who unloaded 10 of his 18 points in the opening quarter. 

The Grizzlies continued their dominance early in the second, stretching their lead to its biggest at 23 capped off by Lee's three-point basket, but the Spurs ignited a 24-8 run to cut the deficit to single digits heading into the locker room, trailing, 52-45.

Memphis started the third on an 8-0 run, but the Spurs outscored the Grizzlies, 24-11, thereafter to stay within striking distance heading into the the final quarter. 

San Antonio ignited a fourth quarter comeback behind Danny Green, who scored 13 of his 25 in the fourth, including a go-ahead three pointer with two seconds left, but Marc Gasol hoisted a Hail Mary three, which eventually hit the mark to force the first extra session.

After being knotted up for two straight overtimes, Zach Randolph took matters in his own hands, scoring six points in the third overtime to pull away and grab the victory for the Grizzlies, who are coming off a victory against the red-hot Warriors. The Spurs got one last crack at the basket, but Manu Ginobili missed a 28-foot three pointer thus sealing their faith.

Vince Carter added season-highs in points and steals, chalking up 18 points and three steals off the bench, while Kosta Koufos recorded 16 points and seven rebounds for Memphis, who missed the services of Tony Allen.

Danny Green pioneered the offense for the Spurs with 25 points, seven rebounds, and a career-high five blocks, but the North Carolina Tar Heel hurt himself during the second overtime after losing his footing while attempting to catch an errand pass from Ginobili. However, Green was able to stay on the court. Tim Duncan logged 23 points and 16 rebounds while shooting a dismal five out of 15 from the charity stripe, while Manu Ginobili recorded 21 points, eight rebounds, and eight assist for the Spurs.

The Memphis Grizzlies win their sixth game in a row, sitting at the top of their division with a 21-4 win-loss card, while the San Antonio Spurs drop to 17-9. The Spurs have now lost the last three out of four games.
